The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) seeks an intern to support its mission of protecting human rights globally. The intern will work in Bangkok, Thailand, for six months (August 2026 - February 2027) under the supervision of the Deputy Chief or Chief of the Myanmar Team. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing human rights developments in Myanmar, researching and drafting internal/external reports and news updates, supporting engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, assisting with workshops and seminars, and participating in meetings. Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall support OHCHR in fulfilling its mission: to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented. The Intern reports to Deputy Chief of the Myanmar Team or Chief of the Myanmar Team. Daily responsibilities of the Human Rights intern will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to:- Monitor and analyze developments and trends (i.e. human rights, politics and conflict) in Myanmar;- Research and draft internal and external notes and reports within the assigned area and, in particular, the intern may: prepare daily news updates with information on the human rights situation in the region;- Support the engagement with the UN human rights mechanisms, including Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies;- Assist with the organization of workshops and seminars; maintaining and developing information and resource tools;Participate and take notes in meetings/conferences, as requested; and perform other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate

Qualifications/special skills

Education: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design factsheets and surveys is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
