The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

 
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

 
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
c) are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

 

Background Information

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Supply Chain & Procurement officer Officer for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) based in Cairo, Egypt, and direct supervision of the Regional supply chain Associate for the MENA, the  intern selected through advertised vacancy will be responsible and accountable for providing support to the Regional Supply Chain Unit with related functions to support the Regional Office (RO MENA) as well as Country Offices (COs) in the MENA region.

The Supply Chain Support Intern will provide administrative and operational support to the Supply Chain and Procurement unit. This role offers an opportunity for the intern to gain hands-on experience in Supply Chain and Procurement processes, quotations, PRs, POs and other supply chain-related activities.

Responsibilities

Tasks & Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist in collecting quotations, preparing comparison tables, and supporting basic evaluation steps.

  2. Help prepare Request for Quotations (RFQs) and Purchase Requisitions (PRs) under supervision. 

  3.  Support the preparation and follow‑up of Purchase Orders (POs) and service contracts. 

  4. Assist in maintaining procurement files and procurement tracking sheets. 

  5. Support compliance checks by ensuring documentation is complete and properly filed.

  6. Support coordination of logistical arrangements for meetings, trainings, and travel (hotel booking, transportation, invoice collection). 

  7. Assist in monitoring basic logistics needs for the office. 

  8. Help collect and record delivery documents (GRNs, AWBs, invoices).

  9. Assist in updating vendor information sheets (VIS). 

  10. Support asset tagging, verification, and maintaining asset assignment forms. 

  11. Assist in updating inventory databases and confirming items are properly recorded. 

  12. Help conduct periodic physical checks of expendable and non‑expendable items.

  13. Assist the team with basic coordination tasks (e.g., tracking vehicle maintenance schedules, collecting logs). 

  14. Support documentation for service providers as needed.

  15. Perform any other administrative or supply chain‑related duties as assigned.

  1. The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the IOM.

  2. Increase awareness of international cooperation activities and UN inter-agency collaboration.
  3. Assist in implementation of  Supply Chain initiatives within an international work environment.
  4. Support Supply Chain-related initiatives aligned with IOM’s global mission and objectives.
  5. Gain basic understanding of procurement processes (RFQs, PRs, POs) 

  6. Develop skills in quotation analysis and documentation management 

  7. Learn compliance and proper record-keeping practices 

  8. Build experience in logistics coordination and support 

  9. Understand inventory, asset, and vendor management 

  10. Strengthening administrative and coordination skills

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Business Administration, supply Chain, Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

Notes

Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.

IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
