この役割について
This is an unpaid, six-month internship within the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, reporting to the Chief of the Peacebuilding Support Coordination Branch. The role offers flexible work arrangements, allowing candidates to work remotely, in a hybrid capacity, or fully in-person at the UN premises in New York. The intern will support the branch through research, compilation, and summarization of background materials for meetings and reports. Key responsibilities include assisting in the coordination of service-wide activities and special projects, managing and developing internal databases, updating the department website, and generating statistical reports. The intern will also assist in preparing presentation materials using appropriate technology and perform various administrative duties as requested. The position is open to full-time (35 hours/week) or part-time (20 hours/week) candidates. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or has completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree. Fluency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of another UN language considered an asset. The internship does not provide financial remuneration; interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The role aims to provide practical experience in political affairs and peacebuilding support while contributing to the department's operational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
The duration of the internship is for six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and may be either full-time or part-time. It should be noted that full-time internship working hours are 35 hours per week, while part-time internship working hours are 20 hours per week. The internship will be undertaken either remotely outside the duty station or in a hybrid working arrangement at the UN Premise, New York, United States.
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of PBCSB, the intern will perform the following functions:
- Research, compile and summarize background materials for use in preparation of meetings, reports, summaries, etc.;
- Assists in the coordination of service-wide activities, special projects and events;
- Supports the management and development of internal databases; updates the website; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases;
- Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software;
- Performs a variety of administrative duties, as requested.
- Perform other functions, as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
