The World Bank Group is seeking a WBG Pioneer Intern for its newly established Berlin Country Office, a joint hub for IFC, IBRD, and MIGA. The intern will support the IFC Country Officer for Germany and the broader Berlin team in advancing engagement priorities with private sector partners across Germany, Switzerland, and the Nordic countries. Key responsibilities include conducting research and analysis on market developments and stakeholder priorities, preparing briefs and presentations, assisting with stakeholder mapping, and coordinating meetings and events. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping the office’s success and ways of working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or in the final year of an undergraduate program, with a preferred academic background in economics, finance, business, international relations, public policy, or development studies. While full-time professional experience is not required, relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects are welcome. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, along with effective communication and organizational abilities. Proficiency in English is mandatory, with German preferred. The intern will gain hands-on experience in global development while collaborating with international professionals dedicated to ending poverty.

Description

WBG Pioneers, the World Bank Group’s Internship Program, offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a high impact learning experience at the heart of global development. Participants gain hands on experience in a diverse and dynamic environment, contribute fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, and connect with international professionals working to end poverty on a livable planet.

The Berlin Country Office is a newly established and highly dynamic joint World Bank Group office bringing together colleagues from IFC, IBRD, and MIGA. The office supports engagement with Germany, the largest economy in Europe and one of the largest economies in the world, making this a highly strategic mandate for the World Bank Group. Given the office’s recent establishment, the intern will have a unique opportunity to contribute directly to shaping the office’s success, ways of working, and external engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the IFC Country Officer for Germany and Berlin Country Office team in advancing engagement priorities, with exposure to IFC’s work with private sector partners across the region.
  • Contribute to research and analysis on market developments, stakeholder priorities, and opportunities relevant to the office’s engagement agenda.
  • Help prepare briefs, presentations, talking points, and background materials for meetings, external engagements, and visits.
  • Assist with stakeholder mapping and support the preparation of materials for engagement with government counterparts, private sector stakeholders, development finance partners, and other relevant institutions.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and follow-up of meetings, events, outreach activities, and visits involving the Berlin office.
  • Provide research, coordination, and administrative support for the Country Officer’s work in Germany, and help support engagement efforts related to Switzerland and the Nordic countries.
  • Help strengthen day-to-day collaboration across IFC, IBRD, and MIGA colleagues in the joint Berlin office.
  • Gain hands-on experience in a new and entrepreneurial country office environment, with opportunities to learn from senior colleagues and contribute to meaningful work.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or in the final year of, an undergraduate program.
  • Full-time professional experience is not required; relevant internships, volunteer experience, or academic projects are welcome.
  • Academic background in economics, finance, business, international relations, public policy, development studies, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English is required; German is preferred as an additional language.
