Duties and Responsibilities

Organization Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Office of Administration of Justice and specifically in the Registry of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) in New York. The position is under the overall supervision of the UNAT Registrar as the First Reporting Officer, and the Principal Registrar is the Second Reporting Officer. The UNAT hears and decides appeals filed by or on behalf of current and former staff members appealing judgments rendered by the United Nations Dispute Tribunal or other first-instance tribunals. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Legal Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Review historical appeals data in court case management system and perform data auditing for data presentation purposes. • This would include identifying lack of detail, duplicates and inconsistencies, and improving case entries as required. • Assist in manipulation/translation of the data as input to PowerBI for the Appeals Tribunal caseload dashboard.

Qualifications/special skills

A bachelor's degree related to database or data analytics and at least one year of experience in this field is required. Knowledge of advanced Excel is required. Case Management Software proficiency is also required, but no specific CMS brand. Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBI or similar products is desirable. Experience in administrative and/or civil litigation support is desirable. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R for data cleansing, text analysis and automation is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency of another official United Nations language is desirable.
