Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is located in the Management Unit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda) Sub-Fund, within the Capacity Development Programme Management Office (CDPMO) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Management Unit of the 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund supports the administration, coordination and oversight of projects funded under the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) to strengthen national capacities for sustainable development. The Intern reports to the Programme Management Officer and Senior Programme Management Officer. This is a part-time, unpaid internship at the United Nations Headquarters for a period of four months initially. Interns work as members of the team in the CDPMO, support the management of projects advancing sustainable development while gaining exposure to the work of the United Nations more broadly. Responsibilities: Under the general guidance of professional staff of the Management Unit, the intern will support the planning and implementation of projects and activities funded under the 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund of the UNPDF. Planning and Coordination Support: • Provide assistance in the development, review and preparation of project proposals in support of sustainable development. • Assist in the organization of meetings for the Management Unit, including preparing background documentation, collecting and consolidating information provided by implementing entities, and developing records of meetings. • Assist in tracking follow-up actions related to project review, implementation and reporting. • Other coordination support as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Research Support: • Provide research support for background/information materials in support of the Management Unit, including the collection and analysis of data. • Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, summaries, presentations and other information material related to the work of the Sub-Fund. • Other research support as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Operations and Administrative Support: • Support the day-to-day management and activities of the Management Unit, including organization of documentation, filing and information management. • Support the preparation and updating of visibility and information materials of the 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund, including updating web pages, project summaries, brochures and other visibility materials. • Other ad-hoc related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Knowledge of MS Copilot, prompt engineering, and AI is desirable. Ability to draft news articles is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
