The Communications department (COM) develops and coordinates the IMF’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, advises Management and staff on public messages, and monitors and responds to what people outside the IMF say about the institution and its activities.
The department’s Strategy and Impact Division (COMSI) helps to shape and coordinate strategic communication planning for the institution, develops public messaging and executive communications for the Fund’s leadership, and assesses the impact of outreach efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the division’s managers, specific responsibilities for this position will include:
Drafting speeches, talking points, narratives and other materials for IMF’s senior leadership team to deliver messages at global, regional and/or country levels.
Working with management and across Fund departments to ensure institutional alignment on individual speeches/talking points.
Preparing tailored messaging and content for different communication channels/platforms, including blogs and op-eds.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must have an advanced university degree (or equivalent) in Communications, International Relations, Languages, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience, is required or a university degree, or equivalent, and ten (10) years of relevant professional experience are required.
The candidate must possess the following:
Excellent English writing skills, with demonstrated ability to create compelling speeches, talking points and narratives for delivery to a wide variety of audiences.
Proven experience in converting technical work into cogent, accessible communication products and messages in numerous formats, including visual storytelling.
Good understanding of current global economic issues, knowledge of the IMF’s mission and policy work, and a record on connecting work product to broader external context.
Ability to work as part of a team with openness to ongoing feedback; strong negotiation skills; and high degree of comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
The candidates must have excellent writing skills as well as a background in economics, with strong preference for a background in macroeconomics. This could include a degree or practical experience such as a portfolio of writing on topical economic issues.
This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
