This internship is designed to be full-time (6 months) and in-person.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall support OHCHR in fulfilling its mission: to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented. The Intern reports to the assigned manager in SEARO. Daily responsibilities of the Human Rights intern will depend on the individual's background and may include a focus on human rights and migration, climate change and environment, early warning, communication and public information. Duties may include but are not limited to: - Monitor and analyze human rights developments and trends in South-East Asia. - Research and draft internal and external notes and reports within the assigned area and, in particular, the intern may prepare daily news updates with information on the human rights situation in the region. - Support SEARO's engagement with the UN human rights mechanisms, including Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. - Assist with the organization of workshops and seminars, maintaining and developing information and resource tools and updating information in website. - Participate and take notes in meetings/conferences as requested and perform other duties as requested by the supervisor as appropriate.

Qualifications/special skills

Competency: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Skills: Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Additional Information

This internship is based in Thailand. Selected candidates who are not Thailand citizens, will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and approved employment authorization allowing them to undertake the internship.
