UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to develop a Gender-Responsive Climate Education Curricular Framework for primary and lower-secondary education in Tanzania. TERMS OF REFERENCE

The work will focus on 1) Producing a Framework for primary and lower secondary education which is aligned with the Tanzanian National Curriculum, and 2) ensuring that framework for primary and lower secondary is harmonized with the Upper Secondary Framework, ensuring continuity and coherence across the system.

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Climate Change, Environmental Science or another relevant field.
  • Additional qualifications or demonstrated expertise in climate change education, education for sustainable development, or curriculum and policy document development will be an added advantage.
  • Work Experience:
  • A minimum of 8 years experience working in the Tanzania education sector and curriculum implementation
  • At least 5 years experience in climate education and curriculum development, particularly for primary and secondary levels.
  • Proven track record of developing pedagogical resources and frameworks that integrate climate science, active pedagogy and policy-alignment.
  • Experience collaborating with education ministries, curriculum agencies and other multi-stakeholder networks.
  • Ability to harmonize with an existing upper-secondary framework (developed by Room to Read) and ensure vertical coherence across education levels
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Swahili is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
