The World Bank Group’s Infrastructure Finance Group (IFC) in Lima, Peru, is seeking an Infrastructure Investment Analyst Intern for its Latin America and the Caribbean Infrastructure Unit. This internship offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a high-impact learning experience in global development. The intern will provide analytical, research, financial modeling, and transaction support to Investment Officers. Key responsibilities include creating and analyzing financial models, reviewing historical and projected financial statements, conducting industry and market research, and preparing pitchbooks and client proposals. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or in the final year of an undergraduate program with a concentration in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or Public Policy. They should possess strong quantitative and financial analysis skills, with experience in infrastructure or project finance being desirable. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills in English and fluency in Spanish, with Portuguese as a plus. This role is designed for students interested in emerging markets and private sector development, offering exposure to power, mining, transport, and other infrastructure sectors.

IFC’s infrastructure activities include power generation, distribution and transmission, mining, transport and logistics, telecommunications, water, waste, privatized public services, and subnational/cities financing. The Latin America and the Caribbean Infrastructure Unit is an open and dynamic team involved in the origination, structuring, and supervision of IFC’s infrastructure investments in the region. The unit is seeking an Infrastructure Investment Analyst Intern to provide analytical, research, financial modeling, and transaction support to Investment Officers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, update, and analyze financial models; project finance modeling experience is desirable.
- Review and analyze historical and projected financial statements and other client financial information.
- Conduct industry, market, pricing benchmark, and integrity/KYC research, and support IFC’s business development efforts.
- Prepare pitchbooks, client proposals, internal memos, and other written outputs for transaction processing and portfolio management.
- Review periodic financial statements, project progress reports, and other information submitted by clients.
- Provide analytical support during investment negotiations and internal approval processes.
- Support active monitoring of portfolio investments, including compliance with IFC financial, environmental, insurance, and legal requirements.
Selection Criteria
- Currently enrolled in, or in the final year of, an undergraduate program, preferably with a concentration in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in a financial institution, investment banking, private equity, consulting, infrastructure company, or related sector is desirable.
- Demonstrated quantitative, financial analysis, and modeling skills; experience with infrastructure and project finance is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound business judgment, and ability to identify issues and present practical solutions.
- Ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries, with demonstrated teamwork skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines under pressure.
- Keen interest in emerging markets and private sector development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in Spanish is required, and Portuguese is a plus.
