Consultant -Pacific Focal Point

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) seeks a Consultant to serve as the Pacific Focal Point, supporting the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative. This role facilitates the energy transition in Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) by coordinating renewable energy deployment, electrification strategies, and regional pooled procurement. The consultant will liaise between IRENA and Pacific stakeholders, contribute to technical workplans (e.g., smart electrification, offshore renewables), and support capacity building and knowledge sharing. Responsibilities include drafting publications, monitoring energy transition efforts, and representing IRENA at high-level events. The position requires deep expertise in renewable energy technologies and policy within the Pacific context, along with established networks in the region. The consultant reports to the Programme Officer, SIDS Lighthouses, submitting bi-weekly and monthly progress reports. The role is remote-based with potential short-term missions. It aims to foster an enabling environment for accelerated renewable energy adoption, reducing dependency on fossil fuels in the Pacific region through strategic partnerships and technical advisory services.
