The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna is seeking interns for the Civil Society Unit (CSU) within the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs. Duties and Responsibilities

Several internship positions are open in the Civil Society Unit (CSU), Office of the Director (OD), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria. The next internship will start in October 2026. All internships are for a period of four (4) to six (6) months subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the interns.

The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

The UNODC Civil Society Unit (CSU) manages the Civil Society Global Programme (GLOU68). Within the framework of GLOU68, CSU facilitates the dialogue between civil society, Member States, and the private sector in the fight against corruption, on drug issues and other crimes. Through the GLOU68 programme, CSU works to facilitate meaningful participation of relevant stakeholders in UNODC activities.   • Contribute to the implementation of Programme GLOU68 “Engagement with Non-Governmental Stakeholders on Anti-Corruption, Drugs and Crime Prevention”, by participating in the various aspects of the projects’ cycles, including drafting concept notes, implementation and reporting;
  • Support the development of a wide range of communication materials (e.g., flyer design, web stories) to increase visibility on the margin of related events, highlight CSU activities and impact;
  • Attend and take notes at events/meetings/conferences;
  • Assist in the preparation of the CSU activities and events;
  • Conduct research;
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please explain how do you meet this criterion using examples. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. For this internship we would appreciate your creative ideas for the development of visibility materials (flyers for events, roll-ups, web stories, social media). Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.
