The World Meteorological Organization is seeking an intern for the Global Communication and Engagement Office to support social media and digital communication efforts. Key responsibilities include organizing the annual WMO calendar competition, developing social media marketing strategies, managing content calendars, creating digital assets, and assisting with the digitization of photo archives. The intern will work under the supervision of the Social Media Officer and collaborate with a small team to deliver corporate communications. Description

Under the primary supervision of the Social media officer, the Intern's duties will include the following:

Duties and Responsibilities

Terms of Reference (including specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound indicators for the final evaluation):

 

  • Organize the annual WMO calendar competition, which attracts hundreds of photo entries from all over the world. Develop social media marketing strategy, ensuring regular promotion only promoted on social media channels.  Catalogue all the entries and assist in selecting the shortlist of finalists.
  • Assist with weekly planning of social media content and editorial calendars 
  • Assist with daily management of social media platforms.
  • Assist in the creation of animations, video and digital content aligned with WMO style and branding
  • Support identification of opportunities to increase and improve social media content and reach and attract younger audiences.
  • Assist with the ongoing digitization of WMO photo archives. 
  • Support with monitoring and reporting needs of social media team 
  • Any other duties as required

 

 

Required Skills and Experience

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and outreach strategies   
  • Proven experience in designing and producing digital media assets 
  • Strong visual eye and keen interest in photography 
  • Ability to multitask and work in a small team tasked with delivering on corporate communications priorities as part of a close team

Functional Skills 

  • Experience using social media management software – Hootsuite and digital asset management systems – Trello 
  • Experience in graphic design using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud apps (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects) and similar tools
  • Experience in photo and video production and editing (desired)
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems would be an advantage

Languages: 

Fluent in English, both written and verbal communication.

Fluency in one other UN language would be an advantage

(Note: The official languages of WMO are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

 

Duration : 6 months, start date as soon as possible
