À propos de ce poste

This is an unpaid, full-time six-month internship within the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Valencia, Spain, specifically in the Technologies Infrastructure Support Unit. The intern will support the 3D Printing as a Service (3DPaaS) project, which aims to streamline supply chains in field missions by enabling on-demand, localized production of spare parts using additive manufacturing. Key responsibilities include assisting in designing 3D models using CAD/CAM software, preparing models for printing via slicing software, supporting 3D scanning processes, and contributing to prototyping projects. The role also involves maintaining the 3DPaaS website, planning technology projects, evaluating and improving 3D printing workflows, and supporting plastic waste recycling initiatives by processing waste into filament. Additionally, the intern will help prepare workshops and events to promote 3D printing technologies. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or has completed a graduate or final-year undergraduate degree in a field closely related to the internship. Proficiency in standard office software is required, while familiarity with specific 3D modeling and slicing tools is desirable. Fluency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of Spanish or other UN languages being advantageous. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable supply chain solutions within a global humanitarian context.

The 3D Printing as a Service is an initiative aimed to simplify the procurement of specific spare parts in a Field Mission environment, by using additive printing methods. It streamlines the supply chain by minimizing procedural steps and empowering field missions to utilize on-demand, localized production solutions.

Tasks will include:

a) assist the team in designing 3D models using CAD/CAM software (e.g.: Autodesk Fusion 360, Shapr3D, Autodesk Meshmixer, Meshlab, etc.). b) assist in preparing models for printing using slicing software (e.g.: Ultimaker Cura, Chitubox), optimizing files for different technologies (FDM and SLA). c) support the 3D scanning process using scanning software (scanner-dependent). d) contribute to prototyping projects for education, research, or community use. e) maintain the 3D Printing-as-a-Service Website by updating content, performing basic troubleshooting, and supporting platform development. f) assist in planning 3D Technology Projects by developing project plans, timelines, and resource needs for initiatives such as product development, prototyping, and research support. g) help evaluate and improve 3D printing workflows by documenting best practices and recommending Industry 4.0 technologies (e.g., automation, digital monitoring) for real-world applications. h) support Plastic Waste Recycling Initiatives by helping process plastic waste into usable 3D Printer filament, tracking materials, and assisting with sustainability outreach.

Finally, the Intern will actively engage in preparing subject-related workshops and events to promote 3D printing technologies.
