Result of Service

Digital and graphic design: Layout and design of print and digital assets, including one-pagers, brochures, report booklets, social media graphics, and event materials, following the brand guidelines of UNDRR materials, including: a. Edit and adaptation of document layouts to Spanish or other languages used in the Americas and Caribbean region; b. Creation and editing of animation products; c. Postproduction of audiovisual materials; d. Support the visibility of ECHO project activities, its thematic groups and MOU e. Support UNDRR campaigns, such as International Day for DRR and World Tsunami Awareness Day. f. Edit and design communication materials that support the awareness raising and visibility of wildfire risk reduction initiatives, g. Develop graphic materials for the promotion of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (RP27); h. Develop graphic materials for the promotion of the RAR27; i. Develop graphic materials for the promotion of EW4All Caribbean activities connected to the CREWS Project; j. Maintain existing brand guidelines across all creative and graphic materials of UNDRR; k. Assist with marketing materials and printing if necessary; l. Assist with branding and communication materials for UNDRR convened events.

Duties and Responsibilities

Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyzes, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action, and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk by working with the U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community. The individual contractor will support the information and communication activities of the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, with a primary focus on digital and graphic design related to the products, events, and outreach efforts of the regional office. The individual contractor will be home-based and will be under the supervision of the External Relations Officer of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (UNDRR ROAC), and will be working with/in coordination with the Communication and Public Information Assistant in the UNDRR ROAC. The individual contractor's main responsibility will be to produce high-quality graphic design materials, including documents, flyers, social media assets, fact sheets, cards, invitations, and audiovisual products. Technical guidance for this position will be provided by the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, under the supervision of the External Relations Officer.

Qualifications/special skills

First level university degree in Graphic Design, Communication Science or related fields is required. At least 7 years of experience in digital and graphic design is required. Experience in layout design in printed and digital assets is required. Experience in animation creation and audiovisual postproduction is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
