The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Purpose
Under the supervision and with the support of the Finance and Administration Manager, the Premises Maintenance Officer ensures proper maintenance of ICRC premises and equipment.
Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
- Monitors the MIU Admin Service Task Management (STM) and promptly addresses maintenance issues in the residences and in the offices
- Carries out maintenance works when necessary (plumbing, electricity, mechanical)
- Manages the electricity recharges and the gas refills in the residences and the offices
- Manages the stocks of supplies (bulbs, switches, ESAP materials, etc.) and orders/purchases any necessary material and supplies, in coordination with the logistics staff
- Manages the standard items list in the residences and the offices, and promptly raises IRs/SRs if items are missing or need to be replaced
- Deals with external service providers/suppliers and coordinates/supervises their work (servicing of air conditioners, water dispensers, water chlorination, cleaning of water tanks, etc.)
- Supervises and controls all maintenance-related expenses for the assigned premises
- Is responsible for carrying out tagging and verification of ICRC tangible assets in the offices and residences and ensuring the inventory data is entered into the ICRC asset register.
- Is responsible for all Electrical Safety Program (ESAP)-related functions in MIU AoR, including Mungono and Damboa Bases
- Carry out regular ESAP preventive maintenance activities and report to the F & A Manager
- Collaborate with the ESAP focal person in Abuja
- Is responsible for monthly updating the maintenance/services schedule for all premises in MIU
- Observe ICRC rules and procedures regarding the management of all premises
- Keeps proper related files and statistics
Certifications / Education required
- University degree in Electrical Electronics or equivalent
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
- Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to run Excel and Word.
- 2-3 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Expert knowledge of air conditioners and refrigerators
- Plumbing, carpentry, and other skills can be of additional value
