Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the international environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The consultant is needed to perform tasks of a technical, organizational and capacity nature, as part of the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Specifically, a consultant is needed to technically support UNEP projects on scaling-up passive cooling in India as part of a comprehensive approach to cooling in buildings and under the framework of the Cool Coalition. The position will require significant liaison with UNEP India Office. The consultant will be home-based. The Cool Coalition is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, cities, international organizations, businesses, finance, academia, and civil society groups to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy, and joint action towards a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling and heat resilience. The Secretariat of the Cool Coalition is based in UNEP. The Consultant’s assignment is to provide expertise in design assistance to real estate developers in integration of passive cooling solutions to ensure heat adaptation.

Qualifications/special skills

A minimum of five years of experience in a relevant field of work, preferably with focus on providing design assistance to real estate developers in designing and constructing sustainable and energy efficiency buildings. Experience in building energy analysis, cost benefit analysis and engaging with building developers and real estate associations to advocate energy efficiency or heat adaptation is essential. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required.
