WBG Pioneer

Background/Organizational Context
The World Bank Group is one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries; a unique global partnership of five institutions dedicated to ending extreme poverty, increasing shared prosperity and promoting sustainable development. With 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, we work with public and private sector partners, investing in groundbreaking projects and using data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges. Please visit www.worldbank.org.
To deliver on the One World Bank approach, Uruguay was one of the first countries globally to have a Joint Country Representation (JCR) for IFC, World Bank and MIGA. This JCR approach allows the World Bank Group to leverage knowledge and resources across the group, with the aim of mobilizing private capital and supporting innovative and pioneering solutions in Uruguay.
The Montevideo office is seeking an intern to provide operational and analytical support to its activities in the country. The intern will play a key supporting role within the office team, contributing to research and analysis tasks, assisting in the preparation of strategic documents, and supporting the development of activities and projects in Uruguay.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the preparation of Uruguay’s new Country Partnership Framework (CPF), in line with the new Country Engagement Guidance. The new CPF approach sharpens strategy and delivery by focusing on six principles: one WBG team (integrated public-private finance and knowledge), greater selectivity (3–5 outcomes tracked via the WBG Scorecard), simplicity (shorter documents), tighter link from strategy to implementation (annual joint business planning with public and private stakeholders), knowledge-led engagement, and stronger partnerships (deeper collaboration with development partners and civil society throughout the CPF lifecycle).
Support business development efforts by assisting sector teams in mapping exercises, by contributing to integrity due diligence (IDD) analysis for investment projects, and by engaging in project financial analysis with investment teams.
Conduct background desk research on political, macroeconomic, industry, and sector developments in Uruguay, and prepare short notes on country-specific macro-economic, political and development contexts, as well as prevailing private sector issues in specific sectors in the country, in support of strategy, research products, and briefs.
Participate in missions, project review meetings, and project appraisals, mainly for learning purposes.

Selection Criteria

Undergraduate (or close to graduation) degree in economics, finance, public policy, business, international affairs, or a related field. Prior work experience is preferred.
Familiarity with the social and economic challenges of Uruguay.
Proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
Strategic thinking combined with thorough attention to detail and a focus on the quality of deliverables.
Analytical and quantitative skills in economics and/or private sector development work, including macroeconomic and industry analysis, and financial analysis.
Team player with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to execute tasks timely and work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment.
Proficiency with data analysis and presentation tools, including advanced capabilities with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and other business intelligence tools.

Note: Please limit your applications to a maximum of three positions. Applications exceeding this limit will not be considered.

WBG Culture Attributes:
1. Sense of urgency: Anticipate and quickly respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
2. Thoughtful risk-taking: Challenge the status quo and push boundaries to achieve greater impact.
3. Empowerment and accountability: Empower yourself and others to act and hold each other accountable for results.

The World Bank Group values diversity and encourages all qualified candidates who are nationals of World Bank Group member countries to apply, regardless of gender, gender identity, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.
