This is an unpaid internship opportunity in the Enterprise Solutions Service, Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT/ESS), hosted by UNESCAP in Bangkok, Thailand. The intern will work on developing an AI chatbot for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) policy, under the supervision of a staff member. Responsibilities include writing Python code, using AI services via API, utilizing Copilot Studio, deploying and benchmarking applications, committing code to git, participating in weekly meetings, preparing documentation, and demonstrating the application. The role requires technical skills in Python programming and software development tools, along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds. The internship duration is 5 months, full-time (35 hours/week).

Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is in the Enterprise Solutions Service, Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT/ESS), hosted by UNESCAP in Bangkok, Thailand. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in OICT/ESS. Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual's background, including but not limited to: • Writing Python code • Using AI services via API • Using Copilot Studio • Deploying, benchmarking application • Code commit to git • Participating in the weekly spring meetings • Preparing documentation • Preparing demo and demonstrate the application to an audience

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. The intern shall be able to write code in Python and use appropriate software development tools (git, etc.); Shall be able to work independently; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
