This internship at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok supports sustainable finance mobilization. Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the world’s leading environmental authority, setting the global environmental agenda, advancing the environmental dimension of sustainable development, and advocating for the protection of the global environment.

This position is located at UNEP's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok, Thailand duty station. Under the overall supervision of the Regional Director and direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator for Finance and Economic Transformations, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: 1) Support the work of UNEP in region on redirecting public finance with increasing number of governments unlocking/re-directing finance to climate, nature and/or pollution actions a. Researching on state of sustainable finance and investment trends for identified priority countries in the region. b. Supporting engagement of Finance Ministries in roll out of the Guide of Coalition of Finance Ministers on Climate Change.

c. Research on tools and methodologies for assessing risks from Nature impacts of investments. 2) Support the work of UNEP FI:

a. Creating a database of Central Bank contact points and analysis of policies and regulations on climate and nature risk assessment.

b. Research and Analysis of Nature taxonomies globally and its adoption/use the region.

c. Support organization of two webinars for NZNP taxonomy developed by UNEP-FI

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1 year) from Master’s, or Ph.D. programme with a focus on Finance, Climate Change Financing or related area. Prior experience in climate change and financing would be an advantage. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is desirable. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
