This internship is located within the Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (TIPSOM) Unit of the UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa in Dakar. The intern supports the Associate Programme Officer and Regional Coordinator in coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the TIPSOM programme portfolio, specifically the PROMIS project. Key responsibilities include assisting with work plan preparation, tracking programme progress, documenting bottlenecks, and strengthening partner networks. The role involves collecting data for project implementation, managing correspondence and filing, and providing administrative support for workshops and training seminars related to combating trafficking and migrant smuggling. The intern must also provide guidance to partners on expense documentation. The ideal candidate is a graduate student or recent graduate with a keen interest in UN ideals, cultural tolerance, and strong computer literacy. Fluency in both English and French is mandatory. The position is unpaid for three months, with the intern responsible for their own travel, visa, and living expenses.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (TIPSOM) Unit of UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN). The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Officer (TIPSOM Unit, ROSEN), and the overall guidance of the TIPSOM Regional Programme Coordinator. The Intern will assist in the coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the TIPSOM programme portfolio, including the project “Strengthening the capacities of West and Central African states to effectively detect, investigate and prosecute trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling and to protect victims of trafficking and vulnerable migrants” (PROMIS project).
The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the preparation/revision of detailed work plans for programme implementation,
- Contribute daily to the implementation of programme activities within the deadlines set by the work plan,
- Assist in the regular evaluation of the progress of activities and document programme progresses and bottlenecks with all relevant materials,
- Contribute to the strengthening of the network with partners with an interest in the unit’s field of intervention,
- Ensure the collection of relevant and up-to-date information from different sources for project implementation and evaluation,
- Organize and coordinate the filing of correspondence/documents and ensure that they are regularly updated,
- Provide information/guidance to implementing partners on the implementation of projects on the production of supporting documents for expenses related to programme activities,
- Provide administrative support for the preparation and implementation of all activities related to the fight against trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, including workshops and training seminars,
- Perform any other task compatible with his or her duties. The internship is UNPAID.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree (Master) in law, international relations, administration, management or communication. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Be computer-literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts Ability to design surveys and polls
Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in oral and written in English and French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantaged
