About this role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) seeks a Consultant to support the implementation of the programme of ECA/SRO WA in Niamey, Niger. Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Subregional Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Niamey, Niger. Under the direct supervision of the the Team leader on subregional initiatives and overall guidance of the Director of SRO WA, the International Individual Contractor will assume the following responsibilities: - Prepare assessments of regional and national values chains and associated policy frameworks to advance economic diversification and industrialization in West Africa - Collect economic data and information to support analysis and policy formulation on West Africa emerging issues, including on debt management, domestic resource mobilisation and implementation of SDGs and ZLECAf Perform other tasks as might be requested by the Director. Specific deliverables of the consultancy assignment are as follows: - Assessments of two critical values chains and associated policy frameworks to advance economic diversification and industrialization in West Africa - Data and information collected and analysed to support two priority project in debt management and AfCFTA implementation in West Africa.

Qualifications/special skills

The consultant should possess a Master’s degree or above in economics, statistics, international development, or any other relevant subject. He/she should have a minimum of 7 years of working experience in sustainable development, economic research and analysis, macroeconomic modelling and analysis, policy formulation, project management, and evaluation. Knowledge of the application of economic principles in macroeconomics, development programmes, or related areas is required. Experience in value chains analysis and economic diversification, support in country/ regional organization long-term strategic plans and policies, and proven experience in strategic report writing are required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in English or French is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable United Nations
