About this role
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Lebanon office is seeking a Programme Intern for its Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit. Under the supervision of the GBV Programme Specialist, the intern will support the branch team in programme planning, coordination, monitoring, documentation, research, and event organization. Key responsibilities include assisting with workplans, tracking progress, coordinating meetings, preparing briefing notes, and maintaining programme databases. The role also involves contributing to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and conducting desk reviews on gender equality and GBV issues. Additionally, the intern will support advocacy and resource mobilization by assisting with donor reports, concept notes, and advocacy materials. The position offers a structured learning environment with periodic progress meetings and a defined work-plan. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or current postgraduate student in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, or Development Studies, with some experience in development agencies. Fluency in English and Arabic is required, along with strong analytical and writing skills. The internship is unpaid but may include a stipend if not financially supported by an institution. Medical insurance is mandatory.

Description
The Position:
Under the direct supervision of the GBV Programme Specialist, UNFPA Lebanon office, the intern will support the branch team in the areas of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by programme planning, coordination, monitoring, documentation, research, and event organization. The role includes assisting with workplans, progress tracking, reporting, knowledge management, and resource mobilization efforts.
A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

You would be responsible for:
- Support programme monitoring, reporting, and evaluation by:
- Supporting the preparation, review, and follow-up of annual workplans and activity plans with implementing partners.
- Assisting in tracking programme implementation by compiling updates on progress, challenges, and planned activities.
- Supporting coordination through scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action points.
- Supporting the preparation of programme documents, briefing notes, and other materials related to Gender and GBV interventions.
- Assisting in tracking programme implementation against workplans, indicators and expected outputs.
- Assisting in maintaining programme monitoring tools, databases, and tracking sheets.
- Providing logistical and administrative support in organizing training, workshops, consultations, and other events.
2. Contribute to knowledge management, documentation, and communication by:
- Supporting knowledge management by maintaining organized electronic programme files, documenting lessons learned, and contributing to the development of programme products.
- Conducting desk reviews and background research on gender equality, GBV prevention and response, and humanitarian protection issues.
- Assisting in documenting lessons learned, success stories, and good practices from programme implementation.
3. Support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts by:
- Assisting in the preparation of project summaries, briefing notes, and advocacy materials.
Supporting in the preparation of donor reports, concept notes, presentations and advocacy products as requested.
The intern will also perform other programme-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, consistent with learning objectives and the needs of the Gender-Based Violence Programme.
Qualifying for an Internship
All interns must meet the following educational and other eligibility requirements:
Educational requirements
a. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as master’s programme or higher);
b. Have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or
c. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.
Other eligibility requirements
d. Demonstrate interest in the field of development;
e. Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the United Nations (English or French) and fluency in the official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish) of the UNFPA office; and
f. Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
You Have:
Your Education:
- Recent graduate or currently enrolled in a master's degree programme in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or another relevant field.
Your Experiences:
- Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.

Financial Aspects:
Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. However, they receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, if not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation, or scholarship programme. The stipend is based on the intern’s agreed place of work, which may be different from the duty station of the hiring office in cases of remote arrangements.
In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
