この役割について

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is seeking a GIS Developer / DBA Consultant to support the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China. This 6-month renewable role focuses on the service design and development of software applications with geospatial and/or AI components. The consultant will contribute to requirements analysis, solution design, and the development, programming, testing, and debugging of new applications using established UN standards. Key responsibilities include preparing technical and user documentation, providing third-level application support, managing version control, and performing data recovery and troubleshooting for deployed GIS systems. The role also involves managing and administering geospatial SQL databases, optimizing stored procedures, and staying current with industry developments to propose new tools. The ideal candidate possesses advanced technical expertise in geospatial systems, particularly ArcGIS, ETL processes, SQL, and programming languages like Python or JavaScript/TypeScript. The position requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct technical presentations.   • Design and Development of software applications using GIS

This position is within the OICT/ESS office, hosted by the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre. This position is based in Deqing, China.

Duties and Responsibilities The consultant will be expected to perform the following tasks, under the supervision of the team leader:

  • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new applications with a Geospatial and/or AI components, using UN established standards
  • Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed GIS systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations.
  • Provides support for deployed GIS systems including version management, data recovery and troubleshooting; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests.
  • Manage and administer geospatial SQL databases
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new tools and libraries.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. Nota bene:
  • The consultant has 10 paid UN holidays per calendar year, following the calendar of the UN office.

Qualifications/special skills

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
