Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI's goals are:  to advance understanding of crime-related problems;  to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;  to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;  to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. This position located in the Training and Advanced Education (TAE) Cluster of UNICRI in Turin. The TAE specifically addresses one of the core missions of UNICRI through the design and implementation of training programmes on matters related to crime prevention and criminal justice. In particular, the TAE Cluster has developed a wide number of post-graduate programmes (including academic curricular at Master level and specialized short courses) and tailor-made capacity-building professional trainings at the request of Member States, judicial institutions, and international organizations. The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, with an opportunity of extension up to a total period of 6 months. Preferable start date: July 2026. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer. The intern will carry out the following duties: • Support in filing and screening the applications of prospective students of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Global Criminal Justice and Accountability, and the Master of Laws (LL.M) in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law 2026/27 edition. • Support in the implementation of online activities within the framework of the LL.M. in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law 2025/26 edition. • Support in the organization and implementation of the in-person workshop of the LL.M. in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law 2025/26 edition. • Assist in providing information to former and prospective participants to all the TAE Cluster training programmes and activities. • Assist in drafting and preparing correspondence, background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations etc. • Assist in drafting and preparing official documents. • Assist in data collection. • Assist in maintaining databases for each LL.M. programme. • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet at the time of the application one of the following requirements (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferable fields of study: law, political science, international relations, criminology, psychology, communication/external relations or other related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
